Most helpful client reviews

147 of 150 persons found the following review helpful.
Very happy with this camera
By Greg Sumner
This is our 5th point n' shoot camera over the years, intended for go-everywhere pocketability. Our former two pocket cameras were Canon's (SD300 and SD600). The Sony is a little larger but improves on them greatly.

The Sony DSC-W370 operates underneath the premise that humans want the camera to be easy. Not just easy but dead simple. So much so that it includes an "easy mode" and "smile sensor" to mechanically take the shot when the camera sees a smile. All of the modern controls are hidden, altho easy to get to if you want them.

What mattered most to us:

- Speed. The camera starts up, focuses, zooms and shoots very quickly. The auto-mode, which we use most of the time, is very smart. I haven't been competent to fool it yet.

- Easy. You in truth don't need to do anything but keep the camera in Intelligent Auto mode. It will sums up what you're attempting to shoot and pick the right mode quickly. My 5 year old took galore photos today, he could use the camera with no instruction.

- SD/SDHC memory card. Sony in the end quit attempting to lock us into their memory sticks.

- HD movies. We used the movie mode in the Canons more than we ever thought we would. So this time 720p movies was important.

- High quality. At any zoom length the shots are crisp. I tested Fuji, Olympus, Canon and Nikon at the same price range - the Sony beat them all.

Negatives -

Only a few and they're minor. The zoom buttons are smallish, and it's easy to go past 7x optical zoom and right into digital zoom, which as a rule I don't use. You are capable to disable digital zoom. I also disabled the musical menu jingles. You will too I bet.

There are very few available buttons on the rear of the camera. This was plainly deliberate - this is supposed to be an Easy camera. But the buttons are smallish and the wheel is likewise rather small. There are only a few consecrated keys and they're for the most basic of functions - flash, screen luminance and smile mode. That's it.

If you're an progressed photographer and you want quick access to functions like ISO, EV or shooting modes then this camera may not be for you. Those functions ARE available with a few more key presses.

Smile Mode seems foolish to me. The camera may be set to mechanically take the shot when it detects a smile. I may tell when someone is smiling, altho to be reasonable the Sony might in truth be better at it than a humane is. I haven't tested this yet.

I wasn't capable to test the Panasonic ZS3, the W370's nearest competitor. At the time I purchased the ZS3 was a full (...) more expensive, but they'll probably drop the price now that this Sony is out.

Swanson
While out in the desert I dropped my Canon SD870 for with regards to the third time in 3 years on a rock and the mirco-gears were no longer in alignment--camera would no longer focus at all. I was heading out on a week trip to exceedingly remote areas so I necessitated to buy a camera in one day to take with me. Not having a lot of good value options, I settled on this model and then came home and read the reviews. It was too late to take the camera back and get another one, so I had to live with this choice. So I read the manual and experimented by taking pictures around my house. The following are my thought after using the camera for a few weeks on dissimilar trips.

SPEED: Since I am an electrical engineer, it did not long to discover that all of the intellectual smile, red eye and other detection algorithms were taking a lot of processing time decelerating down the camera. After turning them all off the seed bettered a lot. Next I put in a 4GB Sandisk Class 6 SD memory card and that helped a lot of more. In fact the speed to take still shots was with regards to the same as my old Canon. However, when using the flash it does take with regards to 2-3 seconds to recharge and be ready for taking the next photo, but I may live with that. The camera mechanically uses the flash outside more than I like, so I turned it off and it the camera operated faster. All of the intellectual detection algorithms in truth slow down the camera. With all of them shut off the camera is ready to take a picture in when it comes to 1-2 seconds depending on the solution of the picture your taking. That is in regards to 1 second for a 5M versus 2 seconds for 14.1M of resolution. That is just the time it takes to write the effigy to the SD card. If you get the class 10 SD cards I am guessing it will be closer to 1 second to write the effigy to memory.

BATTERY LIFE: There are dissimilar modes you may set the camera to operate that control the amount of current used to operate. Because of all of the bad reviews, I set it to the "Stamina" mode as I was going to be away from power roots to recharge the battery and was planning to take lot of pictures. On a trip to Chevelon Canyon to take pictures of Petroglyphs I employed it continuously for 3 hours and took 291 5M solution pictures. I turned it on and off regarding 50 times that day and after doing this for when it comes to 3.5 hours and 291 images later, the battery showed 2 of the 4 bars of still available battery life. I turned it on the next day and took another 100 images and there was still one bar of battery life available. I did not use the flash for any of these pictures. Using it the way I did, would concede taking 400-500 5M solution pictures which is more than I got with my Canon.

BATTERY CHARGING: My canon took with regards to 30 -45 minutes to charge, but I now think it used a higher current than the Sony and so it gives a quicker, but not as deep of a charge. It was shocking to learn the Sony took when it comes to 3 hours to charge. It must be a low current slow charge method which normally makes batteries last longer and hold their charge better.

PICTURE QUALITY: I am not a professional, but people have told me I take good pictures. With that in mind I could not see distortion around the edges and corners as I read in other reviews. Maybe galore or one of the automati detection algorithms does compensation that messes up the images? With the camera setup in a minimal automati mode as described above, the pictures I have take are of the same quality as those I took with my SD870--VERY GOOD!

WIDE ANGLE LENS: It does not have the digital zoom lens feature the SD 870 does and it is fantastic equated to the fixed zoom of the W370, and the wide angle is not as wide, but if you move closer or further back a few feet it gets the occupation done. When your truing to take a picture of a cliff dwelling located on a ledge that is difficult to get closer to, digital zoom is missed.

PHOTO EDITING SOFTWARE: It comes with a scaled down function NERO photo editor. They only concede sure functions to get you to buy the package. NERO will not even grant a person to delete a photo from their computer unless they buy the upgrade. Well you may go to where your photos are stored and delete them yourself or just use a good inexpensive photo editor and forget using NERO. I tested the results of the NERO editor versus the FREE editing capability in PICASA (free by Google online) and I could not see any difference. I just transfer the images and then use an editor to do the croping, etc.

CONSTRUCTION: I checked out a couple of the canon model for a similar price and they weighted when it comes to half as much as the W370 and did not feel like they were built very solidly. This camera is as sturdy as my old SD870. While taking pictures the firstborn day I had to jump from rock to rock over a flowing creek and when I landed on the far side the camera went flying and landed on a huge flat & smooth boulder and slide when it comes to 6 feet before stopping. I cringed as I picked up the camera hoping at least the pictures were good, since it was such a remote place. After attempting the camera it worked fine and I have not found any negative issues with it since. It is a rugged well built camera.

REVIEWERS: I think reviewers oftentimes do not read the manual and accordingly do not set things up correctly, work for the contest or work for the manufacturer and so there may be a lot of dis-information to sift through. The middle ground reviewers are in all probability most precise (LOL)?

OVERALL: This camera is solidly built, has a big 3" diagonal viewer that is easy to read, takes good pictures and a lot of them with one battery when the automati detection features are turned off. It is just what I need and a good value in my opinion for the price. Now, if I had to buy a camera again and had two weeks to get it, recognise what I now know, I would buy it again.

158 of 165 humans found the following review helpful.
Good
By the-movie-guy
Let me say, I've owned assorted Sony digital cameras over the years. First a DSC-P50 circa 2001, then a couple of random ones I purchased new and wound up syndication because they had poor picture quality. Then in 2005 I purchased a Sony DSC-W7 (7.2 mp) point-and-shoot. This is a good little camera but the PQ has always been a little hit and miss. I would say I got one or two good shots out of each 100.

Some difficultnesses with the W7 were autofocus that didn't focus the right way (especially in indoor, low-light conditions), redeye was pervasive (even with the redeye reduction feature turned on), and shutter lag time. (One feature I liked in regards to the W7 was the inclusion of an optical viewfinder, which it seems most of the makers have now abandoned on these little digital cameras.)

Most of these difficultnesses seem to be addressed with the most recent (2010) generation of Sony DSC point-and-shoots. I decisive this was the time to replace the W7, and it came down to a choice amid a DSC-W330 and DSC-W370. After taking a good deal of test photos in the store, and sending those photos to my personal computer at home for analysis, I decisive to buy the W370.

The W370 does not have an optical viewfinder, but it has everything else, and does everything right. The low-light, indoor shooting that the W7 could not handle is not an issue at all for the W370. Each indoor shot has been clear and well-focused, with exquisite background detail in shot after shot. In 10 test shots, only 1 came out bad, whereas with former Sonys there might be 4 good shots and 6 bad.

The quality is light years in front of the W330. I was attracted initially to the W330 because of it is sleek look and little form factor (the W370 does not have this sex appeal), but the W370 blew the 330 out of the water in terms of photo quality, in particular autofocus (always sharp) and redeye reduction (no redeye or hint of redeye at all in shot after shot).

In sum, I purchased the W370 and haven't looked back. This is an splendid little camera and everything a digital camera will have to be. Takes splendid photos whether indoors or out, natural light or artificial, bright conditions or low, etc. I highly commend this product.

Stores that carry the Olympus cameras that use this cable (mine is a Stylus 600), do not carry the cable separately. Very pleased and may order a second.

Williams
I purchased this case based on the picture with the sony camera that seemed to show lots of space. The Lumix ZS7 in by no means a big camera, but in this accessory case I have to stretch the fabric to make the camera fit. The interior pockets have very thin material and with the camera and extra batteries and memory cards bulging out I'm frighted stuff will get scratched when it's all zipped up tight.

I'm using it to only hold the camera. If you use it as a clamshell and just zip up the ZS7 in the middle (without using the pockets and without any extra accessories) it works very well. Otherwise, I wouldn't trust it with the ZS7.

Also, I'm not too pleased with Accessory Genie as a vendor. They keep harrasing me thru unsolicited emails to review this product. EVEN THOUGH I ALREADY DID! Get it together guys. Stop sending me emails to review my purchase. I ALREADY DID!

Tanaleon
I purchased a new silver Lumix and I wanted to have a case that is comfortable and convenient. This case is just that. I personally prefer the softer fabric than the hard cases because they are a lot less bulkier and take up less space in my bag. This is perfect!

First of all, it is BLACK - glad an individual ultimately made something for us XBOX ELITE owners! No more messy USB charging wires coming from the XBOX... no more leaving the XBOX running while the controllers are charging! This unit plugs directly into your wall power outlet! Says made in China - but it appears very well made. The chargebase even has rubber pads on the bottom to prevent it from sliding all over your amusement center. The NYKO batteries fit and worked perfectly right out of the box. Placing the controllers on the base after gaming is a breeze. When you place your controllers on the base the LED light turns RED - indicating it is charging your controller. When the charger is done it turns green and then turns off. Thanks NYKO for making such a outstanding product at an lowpriced price!

A. Rodriguez
This Nyco charger with two batteries is a great value for anybody that has just purchased an Xbox and is looking for rechargeable batteries and a charger base.

As you may see from the picture it comes with charger base that may accomodate two controllers with the batteries in place. It likewise comes with two batteries for only [...]!

However, this charger will not recharge the popular Microsoft batteries ([...])as those are not compatible with the Nyco Charger base.

I regrettably now have two Microsoft batteries that require the play and charge kit (above) and this Nyco charger and two Nyco rechargeable batteries. If this charger could charge the Microsoft batteries as well this would have earned a 5 rating.

I have only had this prodcut for a week and it is performance is superb so far. The batteries came almost totally charged so it took less than 15 mins total to charge both. Mine arrived from Target/ITC thru Amazon. I chosen the black model to match my Xbox. Hope this helps.

297 of 304 people found the following review helpful.
Perfect SLR alternative
By Amazholic
I've owned the G7 for with regards to 1 month now and I've actually learned to be grateful for all it is modern features - but not long ago I received my G9 and I will be returning the G7. What I like in regards to the G9 over the G7:

1. Bigger screen (3.0" vs 2.5") - with no evident decrease in battery life.
2. Picture quality is better. I have done galore parallel tests using the precise settings on both cameras (with the exception of the 12 vs 10 MP of course) and the results have been without doubt or question more favorable towards the G9 in terms of light metering and sharpness. The G9 has a new metering scheme as well as a more modern focusing system too.
3. RAW option is great. Even though most pics will be taken using JPEG (to conserve memory space), you know it when you've got a great landscape with just the perfective lighting conditions that you know may result in a printable pic, in which case you will want to have a raw copy for processing it to the most eminent potential.
4. Timelapse photo functionality is a very nice to have option which the g7 lacks
5. The physical handling of the camera is better, the front has more grip.
6. Some other design aesthetics have also gone into the g9 which I prefer.
7. Noise levels are precisely the same as in the G7. I tested both up to 400 ISO (I would not use anything higher that that) galore times and the speculations found on the internet forums that the higher number of pixels would result in more noise is plainly defective - at least in my capacity to see it in my tests.

* the only thing I dislike in the g9 over the g7 is that new usb connection door mechanism. It feels like it may one day break even with proper use. The "slide out" door (like the battery door) mechanism was so much better in terms of use and possible durability.

If I were a G7 proprietor (and you could not return it because you've had it longer than 30 days) I would not upgrade as the g7 is a superb camera - but if you were looking to buy a new camera the g9 is a better choice over the g7. The g9 is the perfective camera substitute to a bulky SLR - without the loss of total photographic control or quality. Highly recommended.

Kaufmann
If you're a photographer who cares when it comes to effigy quality, and can't always lug around a DSLR, buy this camera. You will have no regrets.

I've had it is predecessor, the G7, for with regards to a year. It has been my normal always-in-the-bag camera. The G7 was fixed at ISO 400; the G9 isn't. My normal workflow with the G9 is to use CS3 to import RAW images (fixing chromatic abberation on the way into CS3 in 16-bit mode), and then to use Noise Ninja to clean up effigy noise. With this workflow, ISO 400 and ISO 800 are wholly usable. (You may likewise play with galore other settings in Adobe Camera Raw, like Recovery.)

And for everyone: you in truth ought to never, ever use a built-in strobe on a camera. The G9 (like the G7) has a hot shoe. Use it!

Canon fixed a bunch of the G7's troubles in the G9, the most glaring of which is the G9 now has a battery meter! (I can't tell you how much that lapse bugged me.) The new LCD monitor is much, much larger -- and gorgeous. And best of all, the camera body is the precise same size and shape, and fits in my underwater housing. (Update: not all the buttons work. The most glaring problem is perchance the zoom can't be changed, and that you can't modify to macro mode underwater. I'll in all probability get the new housing, but the existent one is functional.)

Nits: the new cover for the USB connector is a downgrade, but one that I may put up with. The lens is unchanged, and has a reasonable bit of barrel distortion at it is widest angle. You may clean up the barrel distortion somewhat in CS3, but straight horizontal lines become more or less wavy. I'm being hyper-picky here, but please know that you're not replacing a DSLR with a prime wide angle lens. You're just buying a little camera that you may take anywhere.

Buy it. Shoot lots of pictures with it. Be happy!

Based on my personal observations (And I loved the G7):

I see practically no divergences in Image Quality at all. I thought the G7 was superb, and I find the G9 to be superb.

The 12 MP is practically indifferent from the 10 MP on the G7. Sure it gives you more or less more pixel to play with for cropping and printing, but negligibly so.

The design is nearly the same -- the screen is a bit larger, but for all practical purposes it looks and feels the same. I don't see any divergence in "brightness" on the screen -- it looked great on the G7 and it looks great on the G9.

THere is a slight contour modify on the front with a scarcely noticable front grip molding -- possibly 1/16 inch more than the original. I candidly can't feel a divergence though some users have.

It does have RAW - a feature I don't need nor do I plan to use. But it is nice that it is there for those who want it.

The ISO and noise appears to be the same -- the G9 excels at night neon shots - just like the G7. I see no divergence in noise amid the two cameras.

The shutter lag is precisely the same as the G7 - I don't see any divergence like a good deal of reviewers have mentioned... it seems precisely the same.

Some say that the optical view finder works better - that it is clearer with less parallax. I have never applied an optical view finder on a point-and-shoot in my life, so I can't compare this feature. I will add that here, though, since others have found it a utile improvement.

I likewise don't see any divergence in battery life -- perhaps it is more problematic if you use RAW, but I've gotten the same 450 plus shots out of the battery, just like the G9.

The design of the lens and the connections are the same, so I suppose those of us who carry it around in our pockets are going to have the same dust troubles we had with the G7.

Finally in matchings -- the camera feels the same and weighs the same. It responds the same when you commence it up, and it makes just as much noise as the original. The trademark Canon grinding lens noise is intact.

in differences: that old 2GB card that applied to get 800 shots at 10 MP now gets 600 shots at 12 MP.

The autofocus seems slower on the G9.

Macro shots do not focus as speedily or as well on the G9. There are a great deal of shots that I routinely was capable to quickly use macro for on the G7, that now require rather a bit of futzing to get sharp and focalized in the G9. I suppose that is one of the changes because of the more prominent sensor, but I don't know. I genuinely thought there might be something wrong with the camera, but looking at another G9 at a dissimilar camera shop (so it wasn't the lot number) I was capable to reproduce the same difficultness focusing with Macro as on my personal G9, so it's apparently a camera thing.

The long and the short of it -- I don't think it is worth the Upgrade if you have a G7 unless you actually actually want the RAW. For all other practical purposes, it's the same on a day-to-day usage level.

If you are new to the Canon Powershot G line, then skip the G7 and buy the G9 -- it is like "G7 SuperCharged" -- while in standard the two are identical. THe G9 is in truth less highpriced than the G7 as well.

In Burnout Paradise players are treated to a rarity in the video games universe: a finish reinvention of an established franchise that equals, if not betters any of the former games in the series. Yes, this is a big claim, but one that may be explained in a single phrase: Next-Gen Freedom.

Although the Burnout series’ over the top mobile action has been it is calling card since it ignited audiences on the PS2 in 2001, and later on the introductory generation Xbox console, Burnout Paradise is the introductory game in the series that has been designed quintessentially for play on Next Generation consoles. This has permitted game developer Criterion to rip the training wheels off the game and rebuild it from scratch. The result is a new, expansive world that players may roll through at will. And what a world it is.

Enter Paradise City
Heaven on Earth, at least to road-raging, crash-causing Burnout fanatics, Paradise City is your domainname and extreme proving ground in Burnout Paradise. This expansive driver’s playground stretchings throughout 250 miles and encompasses all sorts of road driving conditions, from fun-in-the-sun seaside cruising boulevards, to mountain roads and downtown gridlock. But no matter of what stretch of asphalt you find yourself on, the beauty of this place is that not one thing is blocked off and your wits are at least as important as the horsepower underneath your hood when it comes to racing here. Check out Paradise City’s five sub areas (click the links for sample images):

Downtown Paradise City

Harbor Town

Palm Bay Heights

Silver Lake

White Mountain

Burnout Your Way
Unlike in former Burnout games, Burnout Paradise not only puts the keys to your ride in your hands, but places you squarely in the driver’s seat when it comes to where you may go and what you may do.

Along with wide avenues and crowded highways, the open game design of Paradise City is also jammed full of concealed side streets, back roads and alley ways. These may be applied as short cuts in races, that is, if you recognise where they are. As you explore, commit these potential short cuts to memory because they will unquestionably come in handy in a tight race. And since we are talking Burnout here, players must not suppose uneventful, genteel contests of speed and precision driving. In Paradise City players are always free to slam, shunt and wreck opponents in their bids for supremacy and they will. Also, new to the Burnout series, races may now start out anywhere, anytime. Just pull up to a stoplight and spun your wheels to get started one in one of five dissimilar event classes:

Classic Race

Road Rage

Burning Route

Stunt Run (new)

Marked Man (new)

Instant Online
Burnout Paradise likewise keeps the mobile carnage coming while simultaneously setting the new ordinary in online social gameplay. With the new ‘Easy Drive’ feature you may find friends online and with the click of a button invite them to a race. Once they’ve accepted the race will begin immediately. That's right, no more annoying wait times at online lobbies and servers. And keeping in touch with friends is having little impact than ever.

Team up or Takedown
In the winner-take-all universe of Burnout teaming up commonly isn’t the basi option that comes to mind, but on these rough and tumble streets it's a good option to keep in mind. With more than 300 FreeBurn Challenges packed into the game, players always have the choice of going it alone versus the field as a whole or joining forces with up to seven of your buddies in user-created race routes. Either way, if you are victorious in your takedown you'll get the chance to talk a lot of trash as you interchange Mugshots with your victim by way of an optional camera hooked to your gaming scheme or your gamertag/PSN avatar if you prefer to keep your identity on the down-low.

Showtime: Crash Anywhere, Any Time
And in the end since a new Burnout release wouldn't be finish without a little something special in the wreckage department, Burnout Paradise proceeds the carnage with an update of it is intimate 'Crash Mode.' Renamed 'Showtime Mode,' players may now crash, bounce and scatter their ride in any emplacement and replay the wreckage over and over in slow motion. One of the most addictive and down right fun features of the game, players activate the mode by merely pulling both triggers on their controller and if they are good sufficient may likewise immortalize their Showtime moments on the leaderboards for all to see.

Driving fans this is Next-Gen at it is best and unquestionably the Burnout title you have been waiting for.

Most helpful client reviews

37 of 45 people found the following review helpful.
Yeeeeha, what a ride!
By M. Edgar
Ok, My background in racing.. Need 4 Speed all games. GTA III on up. Gran Tourismo all. Many more earlier, but for the most part these for the sake of my review... meaning I never played the former Burnout series.

Feel for the racing menu is much like GTA to me. Free form racing around the city is superb. There is a new race or even on just with regards to each corner. Awesome! The feel of the city and environs is very good. Just as in GTA, you find mystery billboards and distinguishable jumps along with the racing. The way they have the level upgrade to your license is fun and keeps you going. Many a time, I have been close to the next level and refused to get off the game. Addictive.

There are tons of races, events, records to beat, too numerous to list actually. Some have complained regarding the Showtime event. I LOVE this event. It's a crack up (pun) and when you get good at it, setting the record in this event for each street in the game is genuinely fun.

Ok.. if the game ended there, it would still be a outstanding game. It doesnt.

Multiplayer. Online racing and entrance is seamless. You just fundamentally hit the right button and you are in a game online. I always go in wanting to work on the online events you may do by teaming up with other players and doing jumps and stuff together, but I end up getting wrapped up in the Takedown with others and gorgeous soon, time has gone by without notice. It's almost too fun really. I'd in all probability buy this game if all it had was multiplayer takedown and no other options. Gladly, that's not needed. lol

There are numerous cars in the game and getting them is finelooking straight forward. No garage or home here, just a junkyard where all your cars are kept. I've seen complaints in regards to having to fix cars and such.. well, that just takes with regards to 5 seconds, since all you do is drive your car through a repair shop which is always just down the street from the junkyard. Not sure why the difficulties with this feature. Basically you get your car from disabling it from somebody else, so the fix feature makes sense to me.

.....

Ok, so I gave the game 4.5 stars. Why the .5 down? The voice settings in the game are in truth bad. You have to turn your scheme music and game noise way down and keep voip on max to even listen the other players and then it's commonly muffled. I use a PS2 USB cable headset which has no volume control, so galore bluetooth sets may have better luck with this. However, it's the poor settings that make the problem, not the headset. I guess they are worried people would up the volume too much and harm ears or something. Still.. it's a minus for me.

Other down.. no split screen racing for offline multiplayer. This is a must have in truth for me. I like to race family memebers offline in racing games and wish Burnout had this feature.

Those two minor things aside, the game is flawless really. The graphics are superb and the framerate is better than any game I've seen on the PS3 to date.

Buy it. You won't regret it if you like racing. I am hopeful for GTAIV and GT5, but for now, this ones the king of the heep.

Leack
Pros:
- Great replay value
- Intense racing experience
- Brilliant online execution
- Constant patching is a huge plus

Cons:
- Only 8 racing designations
- Map layout could use a great deal of work
- Races become insanely difficult

Gameplay:
At it is core, Burnout Paradise is a established arcade racing game. You may suppose to drive your car at insanely fast speeds, launch off dozens of jumps, and crash frequently. However, from there the correspondings quickly vanish. Burnout Paradise is one of the original racing games to feature a to a complete degree rendered sandbox environment. From the get started you are permitted to drive up to any of the games a heap of intersections and hold down both the throttle and brake buttons simultaneously to enter one of the assorted events that the game offers. There is a traditionalisti race mode, a stunt mode, assorted crash affiliated modes as well as an person race indicated to each car. Unfortunately, the crash affiliated modes become boring rather quickly, and only the racing and trick modes actually stay enjoyable.

The sandbox surroundings and intersection conception are very interesting, but unluckily comprise flaws. First off, it is inconceivable to retry the race without driving back to the starting emplacement which leads to frustration. Secondly, since all races end at one of the 8 corners of the map, you'll find yourself driving on a few of the roads in each race, and will closely never see more than half of the map. Also, some of the turns on the map are very difficult to navigate, exceptionally when you element in that you'll be driving upward of 200mph with boost on, and there is lots of traffic. However, the game is still very gratifying and the presentment is very commendable.

Controls:
Inputs in Burnout Paradise are very responsive and each car has a wholly distinguishable feel. Some of the heavier cars are very slow to turn, but are likewise very durable. However, numerous of the more immediate cars with low durability incorporate a great deal of of the best controls of any cars in any racing game to date. Racing is as simple as using R2 to accelerate and L2 to brake/reverse, but learning to drift around corners takes some practice. With that said, the controls in Burnout Paradise are great and are right where they need to be.

Graphics:
Although the game features a very expansive map, the graphics haven't been compromised. Burnout Paradise is a very gorgeous looking game, and the car models are very well-done. The shading and filters applied give the game a very next-generation look and each of the main areas of the game have a distinguishable design to them. The most impressive thing in regards to the visuals is that at times you will be driving at almost 250mph and the game is capable to keep the framerate and visuals without degradation.

Sound:
The game features gorgeous general sound effects but each of the dozens of cars has their own engine sounds. The soundtrack for Burnout Paradise doesn't have any big hits, but there are over 90 tracks ranging from opera to songs from the former Burnout games. The announcer is very repetitious to listen to but the elaborated sound effects more than make up for it.

Replay Value:
Burnout Paradise features hundreds of intersections each with their own race which may take upward of 20 hours to complete. There are likewise 400 yellow gates which quintessentially lead to shortcuts as well as 50 super jumps and 120 red billboards to collect. To top that off, the online mode is a blast to play. The online mode includes all of the single-player event modes as well as a good deal of challenges to finish cooperatively in groups of amongst 2-8. Most importantly, Burnout Paradise has without apparent effort had more content added post-release than any other game on the market, and has received not only free patches which add to the game's already flourishing replay value, but there are also a great deal of freed and soon to be freed downloadable content which require little fees to download. Couple that with the closely 100-trophies available and you have yourself one of the longest lasting racing games on the market.

Rating:
Story: N/A
Gameplay: 9.0
Graphics: 8.5
Controls: 9.0
Sound: 8.5
Replay Value: 9.5
Overall: 9.0

Own, Rent, Avoid:
Own: So far this is the best arcade racing game this generation. Not only is it a very well-polished game but the neverending addition of content and the already existent addictive gameplay make it well worth the admission.

Last Thoughts:
Burnout Paradise is one of the original outstanding tastes of what the new-generation of racers have to offer. For such a budget price, there is no reason for any individual who likes racing games to not own Burnout Paradise.

I don't use a driving wheel and I like my driving games to be wild, crazy, fast and full of beautiful, unpredictable racing tracks. My favored racing game of all time was Star Wars Episode I: Racer until I encountered Burnout 2.

So naturally, when I purchased my PS3, I was very fascinated in getting the next generation version of Burnout. I found that this Burnout was very different. At primary it seemed kind of fun, driving around, smashing things, at last tried a few races, most were finelooking straight forward, not too hard. But it didn't take too long until I was insanely frustrated because one little mistake, one wrong turn may lose you the race, and there is no "start over" button. This is because everything with regards to this game is open world sandbox style. The races are such that you may pick your own route. For me, at initial this meant a great amount of frustration, at last it meant thrills and miles of fun. There is more than racing to be done here, there are stunt runs, marked man runs (you're getting chased by these strong cars that undertake to wreck you), burning routes and more.

The one thing missing from the Burnout series is the unbelievable crashes where you would drive full speed into an intersection and just watch as your car crashed and caused incalculable damage. While Burnout Paradise has something called "showtime mode" where you fundamentally have a controlled crash mode where you ought to cause the car to proceed to bounce and cause a lot of damage, but it seems somewhat contrived and gets boring rather easily. My only other complaint is the crashing for the duration of race like events, you'll be driving and smashing with other racers and causing them to careen off course and crash magnificently, but if you hit some civilian-non-racer you'll end up in a pile of junk on the side of the road before you may say "what the..."

Aside from these two minor complaints there is a great deal to love in this progressed arcade racer that allows you to roam the entire city and country side of "Paradise City". There's a great deal of signs to smash, parking garages to explore, lots of events scattered around the city, a great deal of cars to earn, and races to win, shortcuts to find and lots of fun to be had in this bold take on the Burnout series. This is probably one of the best arcade racers you may find out there.
